About The Broker

The Broker is an independent platform and online magazine on globalisation and development, bringing together cutting-edge knowledge and expert opinions from researchers, policymakers and practitioners.

The Broker acts as an intermediary between knowledge networks, ‘brokering’ global development knowledge to inform practitioners and provide new and integrated perspectives on current global policy issues.

Focusing on five general themes (human security, inclusive economy, food security, social change and global development strategies), we aim to contribute to evidence-based policymaking and better-formulated research questions.

All our editorial content is based on academic or other established knowledge sources, which are summarised and presented in short and accessible articles and newsletters, and through social media. The Broker works with co-readers who are all experts in the specific field of interest to peer-review editorial content and make sure it contains the most recent, top-notch insights.

Editorial content can be distinguished by the green triangle:

The Broker helps policymakers, practitioners and researchers to make better use of the results of state-of-the-art research. We do so, for instance, by hosting international debates on current topics (food security, green economics, human security, aid effectiveness, knowledge policy) on our website.

Opinions and blogs can be distinguished by the blue colour and ‘blog’ triangle:

Our target groups are high-level policymakers working in areas like economics, governance, security and social change in think tanks, international institutions, NGOs, multinationals and universities.

The Broker is based in Amsterdam and has a worldwide network of policymakers, researchers and practitioners.

The Broker is open source: all content, including back issues, is available online. All articles are available to download and view in a variety of formats and on most devices.
