David Black is director of the Center for Foreign Policy Studies and professor of political science and international development studies (IDS) at Dalhousie University in Halifax, Canada. He was previously chair of the Department of IDS. His research has focused on Canada’s role in sub-Saharan Africa, including development assistance, human security, multilateral diplomacy and extractive industries; post-apartheid South Africa in Africa; and sport and world politics. He is the author of numerous articles, chapters and edited collections on these subjects. He has served as president of the International Studies Association’s Canadian section and on the Executive Committee of the Canadian Association for the Study of International Development and the Executive Council of the Canadian Consortium on Human Security.
