Mr. Gerard Pichel is a hydraulic engineer with more than 35 years of professional experience in the field of water management projects. He worked 14 years in water management in Sub-Saharan West Africa and the rest of his career in South Asia and South-east Asia. Currently he is Teamleader of a 220 million US$ World Bank funded dredging project to improve the inland navigation along 250 km waterways in the Mekong Delta, Vietnam. He is permanent employee of consulting firm Royal HaskoningDHV, Amersfoort, the Netherlands. Due to his long experience in Nepal, Bangladesh, Indonesia and Vietnam, he has become familiar with issues of large river basins, in densely populated and water-thirsty mountainous and coastal areas. He firmly believes that better water management is the main crucial key to solve water problems of the future to provide food and water to 10 billion world populations.
