Dr. Bart de Steenhuijsen Piters is KIT’s Area leader for Sustainable Economic Development. He is an expert in the field of institutional development, innovation dynamics and sustainable business development. He joined KIT in 1995 and works as Area leader for Sustainable Economic Development. Dr de Steenhuijsen Piters is leading KIT’s innovation programmes on local governance and natural resource management, rural service and innovation systems and sustainable markets and value chains. He was one of the initiators of the private Annona Sustainable Investment Fund. He has expertise in private and public sector reforms and policy development; stakeholder participation; demand-driven research; public-private partnerships and the design of sustainable production and consumption chains. He has over twenty one years of experience, gained through long-term positions in Mali, Cameroon and Tanzania and numerous short-term assignments in Africa and Asia.
