Prof. Ton Dietz is director of the African Studies Centre in Leiden, Professor of African Development at Leiden University, guest Professor of Human Geography at the University of Amsterdam, and a founding member of International Development Publications (IDP), which publishes The Broker.
Ton studied Human Geography in Nijmegen and completed his PhD in 1987 at the University of Amsterdam. He was awarded an Honorary Doctorate by Moi University in Kenya in 2007 and received the Lauréat d’Honneur from the International Geographical Union in 2013. His expertise and specialties are socioeconomic and political developments in Africa, dryland development and pastoralism, political ecology, environment and development, participatory forms of evaluation, and development cooperation.
