Paul Tjia has a background in cultural anthropology and information technology (IT). In 1995, he founded GPI Consultancy, a Dutch offshore sourcing consultancy firm. He assists clients in several areas, including offshore sourcing strategy, feasibility study, country and partner selection, offshore transition and cultural training, and promotes offshoring of IT and business process outsourcing (BPO) in The Netherlands by organizing seminars and study tours to developing countries (such as Surinam, North Korea, Nepal and South Africa). Paul is the co-author of Offshoring Information Technology: Sourcing and Outsourcing to a Global Workforce (Cambridge University Press, 2007).
In developing countries, the current economic crisis has led to a decline in exports of goods such as textiles and to a reduction in foreign investments. However, exports of IT-related services could be on the increase.
