Since 2007, The Broker is a knowledge brokering organisation in the field of international sustainable development. We identify and assess diverse ranges of knowledge that enable governments, NGOs and private actors to make informed decisions in the field of international development. We co-create, make knowledge processes inclusive and see the potential in knowledge that often remains unused. Through our activities, we optimize the use of knowledge in the right place, in the best form, at the right moment, with the right people. Our team of knowledge brokers are ideologically driven young professionals housed in TSH Collab The Hague and Amsterdam West.

The Broker sets up and participates in multiple projects and takes part in the knowledge platforms INCLUDE and Netherlands Food Partnership, funded by the Dutch Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Department for International Cooperation.

The Challenge

The Broker is a young not-for-profit organization that has recently experienced significant growth in an ever-changing working environment. As a result, there is now a need for a temporary extra effort to set up and secure processes that suit our size, the requirements that partners (may) place on us and our type of organization.

The Board of The Broker is therefore looking for an enthusiastic, people-oriented Director of Operations & Finance with relevant experience to help us further develop in the following areas:

  • Personnel policy, especially suitable for an organisation working with young highly-educated professionals;
  • Developing and implementing a financial policy, including drawing up (long-term) budgets and annual accounts;
  • Developing and safeguarding an IT policy;
  • Ensuring effective internal and external communications;
  • Recruiting a permanent business director.

In addition to the experience you bring, we are looking for someone who inspires and motivates, with integrity and honesty and displays the following competencies:

  • Excellent management skills and experience in coaching leadership of professionals;
  • Ability to represent the organisation professionally;
  • Excellent networking skills;
  • Resilient, stress-resistant and with a flexible working attitude;
  • Excellent oral and written communication and editorial skills in at least Dutch and English.

What we offer

The Broker offers you a challenging position in a dynamic and international working environment with the flexibility to develop within a young and enthusiastic team. Our offices are located in TSH Collab Amsterdam West and The Hague, friendly and focused coworking spaces, home to creatives and start-ups.
You will be working with a soon to be appointed Executive Director, with whom you make up the two members of the Managing Board.
This assignment is for at least six months. We are open to receiving proposals from freelance contractors. In that case, we would like to receive your fee per hour.
