Press Release
Director Saskia Hollander is saying farewell to The Broker after nearly 10 years
September 5, 2022
After having worked at The Broker for nearly 10 years, of which almost five years in the position of Director, Saskia Hollander will be leaving The Broker on September 9, 2022.
Saskia started at The Broker as a knowledge broker, writing insightful contributions for the online magazine that The Broker still was at that time. Since then, the organization has made the transition from an online magazine to the knowledge brokering organization in the field of international development that it is today. In 2017 she became Director of Knowledge Management, in co-captaincy with a Managing Director. Since the departure of the latter in September 2019, Saskia has taken on the full captaincy and continued steering the great international knowledge brokering course that The Broker had been sailing. Under her guidance, the organization has grown in staff, clients and turnover and she can proudly look back on the path that The Broker has travelled together with its partners.
Over the years, besides her managing leadership, Saskia continued to apply her expertise in a range of different projects and through her role as Knowledge Manager at the INCLUDE Secretariat. Examples of her work include several synthesis reports on inclusive development in Africa, the SGDs, and resource-related conflicts. More recently she contributed to an advisory trajectory of the Advisory Council for International Affairs (AIV), in which she applied her extensive knowledge of European politics in co-writing a report on European industrial policy.
Saskia will be embarking on a new adventure at the Clingendael Institute in The Hague where she will join the EU & Global Affairs Unit as a senior researcher from mid-September. Here she will continue to contribute to the knowledge base for global development and a more just and equal world.
The Broker team and board thank Saskia for her significant contributions and leadership in a time of growth and for her tireless efforts that resulted in The Broker flourishing.
As per 10 September 2022, Saskia will be replaced by Vanessa Nigten as interim General Director. She will fulfil this position in close collaboration with the soon-to-be appointed interim Director of Finance and Operations.
Vanessa has been working at The Broker since 2013. She brings ample experience in working with the Netherlands Food Partnership (former Food & Business Knowledge Platform) in the field of research uptake and multi-stakeholder knowledge cooperations with LMIC partners. At The Broker, Vanessa was part of the management team.
We look forward working with Vanessa in further developing The Broker as a unique knowledge brokering partner in the field of inclusive and sustainable development.
We wish Saskia all the best in her future career!
