Food security and stability27 Sep 2018Kim van Wijk

On 12 September, our knowledge brokers Frank van Kesteren and Kim van Wijk presented the scoping paper ‘Strengthening the humanitarian assistance and food system development nexus in protracted conflict areas’ at a workshop organized by the Food & Business Knowledge Platform (F&BKP) and the Knowledge Platform on Security & Rule of Law.

The workshop was organized and coordinated by our knowledge broker Rojan Bolling and facilitated by Gerrit-Jan van Uffelen of VHL Wageningen. It focused on United Nations Security Council Resolution 2417 on hunger and conflict, which was co-sponsored by the Netherlands – whose Ministry of Foreign Affairs intends to implement it through programming on the nexus of humanitarian and development aid. The paper informed the workshop and provided opportunity for exchange and learning to harvest experiences from practice on successes and challenges in implementing interventions targeting food systems in protracted conflict areas. It opened the dialogue on what support practitioners need from each other, policymakers and donors in order to improve the sustainability of programmes.
